Revenue gap: Scotland vs UK revenue per head
This chart shows government revenue generated by Scotland compared to the UK average (defaulted to being on a £ per head basis).
The green line: Before the independence referendum in 2014, Scotland's onshore economy (i.e. excluding North Sea revenues) was generating revenue at roughly UK average levels. Since then, reported onshore revenue per head has relatively declined (the later graph explains why).
The black line: When North Sea revenues are included, in the years leading up to the independence referendum Scotland generated significantly higher revenues than the UK average. Since 2013-14 North Sea revenues have declined dramatically (partially recovering in more recent years due to the Ukraine war and the Energy Profits Levy).
